Azhar Baree continued to stake his claim as one of the best young judo players in Hampshire with a bronze medal at -42kgs in today’s Hampshire Closed.
Apart from one defeat, in the second round to the eventual gold medallist, Azhar won all his fights with resounding ippon scores, including a nine second victory in his bronze medal contest.
Elsewhere, Mieszko Polak and Jack Rogerson performed well in the -34kg category. Both players found themselves in the repechage after defeats in the early stages. Digging in deep, they fought their way through to the repechage final, where in a see-saw contest Jack beat Mieszko to progress to the bronze medal contest against the losing semi-finalist.
In a battle of attrition, the medal hung in the balance, before Jack was held for ippon.
Final results:
Azhar Baree, bronze -42kg
Jack Rogerson, 5th place -34kg
Mieszko Polak 7th place -34kg
