Gradings start next week!

First of all, an apology that so many of you have had to wait so long to 1. get your grade registered, 2. receive confirmation of your grade. Sadly, the situation has been out of our hands – a major software change at British Judo then a lack of grading packs. Hopefully everyone has now received the confirmation of their grade.

We will start running gradings again from next week – this will probably take us up to end of term (provisionally 15 December, waiting for school to confirm).

If presenting yourself for your grade, please show a valid British Judo membership card and have the correct grading fee.

No Judo Thursday due to Covid

Regrettably we need to cancel the session Thursday 9 March due to Covid amongst the coaches.

Tony is still testing positive (day 6) but only has mild symptoms. Kev has returned a positive result this morning, leaving us with no choice but to cancel this Thursday.

Hopefully we can restart classes on Tuesday, and will resume gradings.

A few reminders:

Gradings tonight / your help wanted!

First night of our planned grading block tonight, and we are are looking forward to seeing all the new grades being awarded.

However, we need your help! Tony is currently isolating with Covid (timing is everything…) and hoping to back for Thursday, as today is day 5. Is there anyone who can help with laying mats and taking mat fees tonight, so that Kev can start on time? If so, please meet Kev in the main hall for 5.30pm or as soon as possible after.

Obviously this does mean that gradings may take longer than first envisaged, but everyone will get a chance!

Thank you for a great summer of Judo!

Wow, what a fab summer of Judo we have had!

It’s a long time since we have managed to run classes over the summer holidays, thank you so much for supporting and to the school for making the hall available on the Saturday mornings.

We have seen nearly every junior member attend at least once over the summer period, and had some new players join. We were also delighted to see the return of Amy Roberts – it’s great to have you back.

Congratulations to Renèe and Ophèlia Cleugh, who passed their grading examination to 1st mon.

The summer has been marked by Olympic and Paralympic medal success – huge congratulations are due to Olympian Chelsie Giles, who winning Team GB’s first medal at Tokyo 2020 made Judo front page news, and Paralympians Elliot Stewart and Chris Skelley. Skelley’s gold medal was our first Paralympic Judo gold since Simon Jackson MBE in 1996.

We are taking a short break now, as school resumes. Classes will resume on Tuesday 7th September, at 6pm. See you on the mat!
