Understanding the rules

Following on from the visit of referee Martin Rivers in September, we have found the above video, produced by the European Judo Union, that explains the rule changes as they affect grip breaking, edge play etc.

Demonstrations are by 1980 Olympic finalists Ezio Gamba and Neil Adams MBE.

The video will definitely repay some close study.

We are delighted to have secured the services of referee Martin Rivers, who will be visiting the club on Tuesday 23 September.

Martin is one of the busiest referees in the country, he is a familiar face at Hampshire events and also has international experience.

Martin will run two sessions on the evening of 23 September:

A shorter session from 1830 – 1900 for our younger and less experienced players, covering some basic dos and don’ts;
A longer session from 1930 – 2030 for our more advanced and senior players, looking at some of the recent rules changes and their implications.

Martin can also answer questions about the junior referee scheme.

Class times for the evening therefore will be as follows:

Junior beginners: 1800 – 1900, as normal
Junior advanced and adults: 1900 – 2030

Normal mat fees will apply.
